Brand new Assistants Page

Introducing the brand new Assistant page. With the rise of ChatGPT, it's become clear that people sometimes just want to talk to an AI, without any context. The Assistant's page is exactly that, but with all the best features of Scholarly.

You can link PDFs, Pages, and soon flashcard decks, so you can easily reference them in your conversations. This will be an absolutely amazing feature for students who want to quickly reference their notes.

• We now support the latest GPT-4o model from OpenAI. All conversations are now in GPT-4o even if you're a free user. All previous GPT-4 implementations have been moved to GPT-4o.

Link Pages to Scholarly Assistant

You can now link pages to Scholarly Assistant, so you can easily reference them in your conversations. It's actually extremely easy, just press '@' and start typing the page's name.

Just like PDFs, linking pages works for every conversation, so even if you're studying a flashcard deck, you can just link a page and Scholarly Assistant will understand.

You can also link a page by clicking the upload icon next to the input, and selecting the page you want to link. (We know about Page thumbnails not generating, we're working on a fix.)

Redesigned Share/Public Pages

Shared pages are finally getting the attention they deserve. We've redesigned the shared page to be much more appealing and easier to use.

The new redesign is more intuine with our regular page design, so it feels much more like Scholarly than a separate feature.

Here's what's new:

• Introducing brand new Scholarly Insights. This new feature automatically creates tags and ai descriptions for a page, so you can easily understand what the page is about.
• Redesigned Similar Pages. You can now easily see similar pages without any of the clutter of the previous design. The new design also displays their views, and duplication counts, as well as the new AI Descriptions so you can easily understand what the page is about.
• Improvements to Relationship Categories. We've updated the pipeline used to generate relationship categories, so they are now much more accurate.

Simplified PDFs inside pages

We've simplified the way PDFs are displayed inside pages. Now you will always see the pdf, however, we've hidden the many PDF options to only show if you hover over the PDF. The PDF name has also been removed from the top of the PDF, as it was unnecessary.

We will simplify flashcards inside pages in a similar way soon.

(Beta) Introducing Conversation Memory!

We're excited to announce a new feature that will make your conversations with Scholarly Assistant even more productive. Conversation Memory allows Scholarly Assistant to remember the context of your conversations, so it can provide more relevant information based on your previous interactions.

You can easily have it remember information about you simply by asking it to "remember" something. It will then remember that information for the rest of the conversation, as well as all future conversations.

Memory allows you to tailor Scholarly Assistant to your needs, so you can get the most out of your conversations.

Press '@' to link PDFs in conversations

You can now link PDFs in conversations by pressing '@' and selecting the PDF you want to link. This makes it much easier to reference PDFs in conversations.

It works just like inserting components via '/', but, now it's just for PDFs.

Enhanced PDF Upload Feature

We are excited to announce that you can now upload PDF files directly into conversations! This new feature supports both existing and newly created PDFs, allowing you to seamlessly integrate your documents into our platform.

Once uploaded, your PDFs will be stored in your account, ensuring easy and continuous access from the Home section. This means you can always revisit your documents whenever needed.

Engage with your PDFs during conversations or while navigating other pages. This interactive feature enables you to ask questions and seek clarifications directly related to the content of your PDFs.

We are continuously improving our AI pipeline to enhance PDF compatibility. If you encounter issues with older PDFs, we recommend re-uploading them to ensure optimal performance and access.

Archived Pages Button

We have added an archived pages button, so you can easily access your archived pages. It was previously a feature which we removed alongside a redesign of the home page, however, now that the home page has gotten another redesign, we have added it back.

You can quickly search for archived pages, and unarchive them with a single click.

Performance Updates

• Editing a component will now save 100% faster than before, it would previously take up to 3 seconds, now it takes under 1.5 second. This is more obvious when creating multiple lines of text, as previously it would scale linearly with the amount of components, now it's constant.
• Deleting many or one component is now 150% faster, it would sometimes take up to 5 seconds to delete many components, now it takes under 1.5 seconds.
• Duplicating pages is now much faster, it would sometimes take up to 10 seconds to duplicate a page, now it takes under 2 seconds.

Home Page Updates

The home page has been updated to be much more intuitive and easier to use. Each page now has a thumbnail that shows the first few text content. This makes it much easier to find the page you're looking for.

We have added a recents section, it'll show the 3 most recent pages, and the 3 most recent flashcard decks.

We have also replaced the default view mode for your content to be table mode, as this is much easier to use, and it's much more intuitive.

We're going to integrate flashcard metrics soon, so there's going to be much more to come.

Conversation Settings

We've finally added conversation settings, so you can now change the AI model, and toggle certain features on or off.

You can now choose between GPT 3.5, and GPT 4.0, and you can also toggle the Youtube Search feature on or off.

GPT 4.0 is the best model out there, and it's only available for Plus & Ultimate users.

Divider Component

A pretty simple update, but we've added a new component, the divider component. This is great for separating content, and making your pages look much more organized.

New Flashcard Editor

The old flashcard editor has been replaced with a new and improved version that's much more streamlined and easier to use.

Now, you can edit your flashcard decks directly on the page, rather than opening a seperate modal, this makes it much easier to manage your flashcards.

We've added a new action to the AI Assistant, you can now search for youtube videos directly from the AI Assistant chat. This is great for finding educational videos, and other resources.

The youtube search works alongside our extensive context system, so you can easily find the videos you need.

This works for all languages, and it's a great way to find educational resources.

Major Improvements to Flashcard Creator

We've overhauled the pdf to flashcards system to be much more intuitive, and allow for more customization. Now you can select the page , the flashcard deck, and the PDF before creating the flashcards. This will allow you to create flashcards much more quickly, and easily.

We allow you to create a new page, and flashcard deck aswell, so it's much more intuitive.

With this, we've unified the two seperate creators, one for existing decks, and one for new decks, which allows us to better manage the system, and make it much more intuitive.

Assistant Conversation Updates - File Uploads

We've made some major improvements to the way assistant conversations work. You can now easily upload files, and the AI will be able to read them. This is great for uploading text documents, PDFs, and even images.

Note: We currently only support text documents, this is entirely intentional as we work on upgrading our existing systems to support images & PDFs. We will be rolling out support for images & PDFs in the coming weeks.

Assistant Conversation Updates - Conversation Titles

Conversations will now automatically have a title once you start using them. This is great for keeping track of your conversations, and it will make it much easier to find them.

Coupled with the new organization system, you can now easily find your conversations, and get back to them quickly.

• Component Encoding is now much faster, and should be more accurate as we only store the actual 'context' rather than supplementary information.

Bringing back the Home Page

Over the past year, we've been experimenting with different ways to display page information. As we're still in early beta, we're always experimenting and trying out new ways to improve the platform. So, here's a new and improved home page, which now features an easy way to view recently viewed flashcards, pages, and PDFs. Scholarly is much more than a note taking, or flashcards app, we're the bridge that connects AI and learning.

The old pages page has been removed, however, you can view all your pages directly from the home page!

Study Mode Rewrite

Over the past week, we have been working on completely rewriting our Study Mode to be much more powerful. Our previous system was quite terrible, and limited the type of questions we could create, as such we were forced to use subpar questions. However, with this new system, we can create much more powerful questions, and we can even create fill in the blank, and matching questions.

Here's a list of all the new features:

• Study mode chat now supports dark mode again, it has also been updated with a new theme.
• Study mode now generates multiple types of questions for the same card, so you will see both True/False & Multiple choice for the same flashcard.
• Study mode now generates multiple choice questions aswell as the answers/choices, previously, it would only generate the options, and keep the same question.
• Study mode T/F questions now successfully generate questions, previously, it would sometimes fail to generate.
• The study mode algorithm now attempts to show you a variety of cards rather than trying to do spaced repetition.
• There is no longer a loading spinner when you reach un-generated questions, it is now seamless.
• There is no longer a completion bar, so you can study at your own pace.
• Study mode questions should have much more variety as there's a slight bias towards non repeated question types.

The Scholarly Assistant has been updated to have more context, and has been updated with the ability to view past conversations. We've completely rewritten this from scratch, with stability in mind.

• You can now easily create a new conversation, it's no longer "clear" it's simply a new conversation.
• Every time you open the assistant, it will create a new conversation, making it easier to ask questions.
• This assistant has been replaced with all existing assistants, including PDF, Study mode & full screen mode.

Major AI Improvements

The recent OpenAI developers day conference has brought about major updates to the base AI models, as such, we've considerably improved our AI features. You can view all of the recent changes below, and let me tell you, they are absolutely amazing. We can do so much more now, and it's all thanks to OpenAI.

• Text to flashcards has been improved consdereabily, previously, we were chunking up the text into multiple sections, but now, we can process entire PDFs at once! You should see a speed, and a quality improvement in the flashcards that are generated.
• AI Assistant in pages are now much better. They can injest more content, and your messages will have much more context, so they will be much more accurate.
• AI Assistant in PDFs are now much better. They can injest more content, and your messages will have much more context, so they will be much more accurate.
• AI Assistants will now utilize context even if it might not be exactly accurate to your question, this will allow for obscure data to still be used.

Revamped Code Block

Code Blocks are now finally here! You can now easily add code blocks to your notes. We've also added an extensive language selector, alongside language highlighting.

You can easily change languages, simply by typing '/' and then selecting the language you want. You can also use the arrow keys to navigate between languages.

We want to make it as easy as possible to utilize code blocks, so I truly hope you guys enjoy this update!

Brand new Share

We've had a lot of problems with our sharing system. As such, we've completely redone it from scratch. You can now easily between private and public modes.

We've also made it much easier to share your pages with others. You can now easily send a link to your friends by putting in their email. It will create a unique link that only they can use. Don't worry, you can easily revoke their access in the same dropdown. An example has can be seen below.

You can share with your friends without actually making the page public. This means that only people with the link can access the page. This is great for sharing with your friends, or even your teacher.

You can also share the page to the internet to let search engines index it. This is great for sharing your notes with the world.

Introducing the Toolbar

We've implemented a new toolbar! All pages will now have a toolbar at the top of the page. This will allow you to quickly add styling to your text, and also quickly add new components.

You can now add more flashcards to your deck using text. Simply click the 'Add Flashcards Using Text' button inside the flashcard editor.

New Study Mode Overhaul

We've overhauled the flashcard study mode to be much more powerful and easier to use. Here are some of the new features:

• We've turned on a dark mode for all the students that study at night. (It'll activate automatically for those that have their system set to dark mode)
• You can now chat with the AI Assistant while studying flashcards.
• The animations between flashcards have been improved to be much smoother.

You can now add beautiful equations on Scholarly! Our equations editor is powerful, and easy to use. Simply create an equations component and begin typing. You can also use the slash command to insert equations.

• Auto Complete now has much better context when suggesting words.

• We've reduced the amount of requests sent to the server for when you type by quite a large percent.
